Biodiversity, Speed, Impact: Ecosystem Restoration Standard joins Climate Collective

We are proud to welcome ERS — Ecosystem Restoration Standard into the Climate Collective.

Our planet has 2 billion hectares of degraded land that urgently needs restoration. Yet, despite the advancements of carbon markets to support these efforts, only 3% of carbon credits are tied to reforestation projects — many of which are low-biodiversity, monoculture initiatives. One key barrier? Traditional certification can take over 18 months, slowing down progress where speed is essential.

Founded in 2020 by Thibault Sorret and Priscille Raynaud, ERS is reimagining carbon market certification to scale ecosystem restoration efforts worldwide. By combining ground-level data with satellite imagery, ERS has created a certification model that aligns with industry standards and delivers results in as little as six months. Their focus on biodiversity, community impact, and efficient processes brings a fresh approach to climate resilience.

“We are on a mission to empower people and organisations to restore the natural world.”- Thibault Sorret

Why we invited +ERS to join the Climate Collective:

🌿 Certification criteria: ERS certification requires projects to meet high standards across three pillars: ecological recovery, carbon capture, and community impact. This focus goes beyond “co-benefits” to cement biodiversity and the interaction with local communities as core components.

📡 Ongoing, tech-driven monitoring: Leveraging digital #MRV (measurement, reporting, and verification), ERS monitors certified projects with satellite data and geolocated ground information, offering a high degree of transparency around project and impact progress, embedding accountability and integrity from the start.

⚡Rapid certification & expanding methodologies: ERS is leading with fast-track certification, certifying projects up to 4x faster than other standards. With over 150 projects submitted in 2024, ERS is one of the most active certifiers in the ARR category. The recent €5M funding will enable the development of new methodologies for certifying new types of ecosystems, ensuring ERS will scale efficiently with the market.

ERS’ mission is to empower organizations to restore nature at scale. With an ambitious goal to restore 1% of the planet by 2030, they’re setting new standards for how we use technology to help funding and achieving impactful climate solutions. Welcome, ERS, to the Climate Collective! 🌱
